(Video) MLB 2K12 – Moneyball for the masses

Not sure how I drew the straw to post about the latest MLB 2K – Verlander vs Verlander video, but here we are. Actually, I’m sure it has something to do with the crazy-talk happening between Justin Verlander and himself, and then Angels pitcher, C.J. Wilson on a couch inside a trailer.

Joking aside, the premise of the video is a great one: to advertise for an upcoming 8 person, $1 million dollar “perfect game” challenge. Players play and post their perfect games. Then the final eight get to pound the mound (?) to see who’ll be taking hope the giant novelty cheque and who should take a knee in the dugout. I love the idea behind this – taking the game (which will be finishing spring training and moving onto the regular season on March 6, 2012) and making it into something much larger, something that the community can get behind. It’s great marketing and great promotion.

You can learn more about the contest on the MLB 2k12 Facebook page.
