3UP Podcast – EP10
The 10th episode of the 3UP Podcast is available — let us know what you think! This episode is a collection of our individual shows: Insert Coin EP10, Bounty Board EP10, and Warp Zone EP10 that aired live on Wednesday, July 4, 2012.
Ian, Raph and Corey talk about some games played over the last week. The entire GDP crew got together at Ian’s this past Saturday for some hardcore gaming and there were a bunch of screens going at once. The first game that people got into was, Super Meat Boy, a XBLA game that came out in the fall of 2010 (and was also featured in the excellent Indie Game: The Movie!). Corey really enjoyed the tight controls and ‘…was infuriating in exactly the way you’d want it to be.’ The team also played a lot of Worms, which is always a great time. Raph had a stellar quintuple kill (including his own suicide!) Other games played were SSX, DJ Hero, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, Geometry Wars (pacifism mode FTW!) and Rock Band.
Mathew, Matt and Ian talk about some hot gaming news from the past week. Some major news for us was the new show that we debuted called Diablo III Hardcore Roulette. This YouTube series features Mathew, Warren and Mike Henderson playing Diablo III on hardcore mode, meaning that if a character dies, there is no respawning — they’re dead forever. To up the ante even further, we developed a series of modifiers that are activated three at a time, roulette wheel style. These modifiers place some cruel and hilarious restrictions on the players! In other news, Castlevania: Lords of the Shadow 2 will not be coming to the Wii U after all. Nintendo also hinted that not all top-tier 3rd party games would be making their way to the system. Final Fantasy VII is being re-released to the PC, but with enhanced controls and HD graphics support. Square is also introducing an achievement system with the game.
Mathew and Corey duke it out this week and we also return to the secret word (which is afro by the way.) This week’s topics are:
- 1943 vs. Jackal – which is the better vehicle combat game?
- Who is the better, bitter game reviewer: Angry Video Game Nerd or ZeroPunctuation?
- Who is the quirkier video game producer: Sudo 51 or Yoshinori Ono
- Which company is better at relating to their fans: Valve, Bungie, Blizzard or someone else?
- Purple or pink: what’s the better colour?
